Mat Rusher built scissor trusses for our home to an exacting standard, based on some photographs we showed him from an American Book called Rustic Elegance.
As well as this basic guideline Mat’s experience training and working with scissor trusses, log cabin construction in Canada was invaluable. He has a great ability to visualise such bold structures in place and I believe correctly balances hand and machine hewn methods for an aesthetically pleasing finish. The scissor trusses are an exceptional feature of our Ski Style Home which has a strong North American/Alpine vernacular and they are one of the best features of our home.

From the outset Mat was very approachable & friendly. Easy to talk with, and listened intently to our plans & thoughts. After Mat invited us to see his own log home that he built, we could see the detail, care & passion he puts into his work. There was no doubt Aspiring Log Homes would be building our project.
During the build, Mat kept us up to date with progress. We always looked forward to our visits to Dunedin to check on progress and where we could discuss options & ideas as the build progressed. We got to know Mat more on a personal level when he & the crew stayed with our family on the farm as the house was being put together. It was a pleasure to host them and a great 7 days of rewarding work. I took the liberty months later to ask Mat if he was able to come back to Nelson & help with the stairs I had in mind. To his credit Mat arranged a time around his busy schedule to come & mastermind & build the stairs. Time ran short, but Mat left me with great advice to get the job completed. We so much appreciated it.
