Taking nothing from the Earth which cannot, one day, be returned.
The Sustainability of the log home starts with logs being taken from a certified plantation around 30-50 years of age. These logs are then replanted to begin the cycle again. Once placed into a log home that log can be in place for over 300 years out lasting the time it took to grow it by 10 fold, showing true log home sustainability.
Custom Fit Joinery
Each log is scribe fitted to the log below. Every contour is individual and allows each log to nestle into the next with simple gravity holding them in place, which enhances log home sustainability.
Trees grow to withstand the wind; they have natural flex. Combine this with interlocking corner joinery and log homes are naturally resilient to earthquakes in a way that neither bricks nor weatherboards can be. This longevity contributes to the sustainability of log homes.
A recent article in The Press has suggested that Christchurch should be rebuilt using wooden structures, an indicator of log home sustainability in disaster-prone areas.
Log Homes Last Longer
With the right construction and care, log homes stand the test of time, just take a look at the oldest building in your area; it’s likely made of wood!
The logs can be treated during the build, with your choice of protective stain which will protect them from the elements, maintaining your home for years to come. Occasional maintenance and your home will last for generations. Click Here for more information about old Russian log churches that exemplify log-home sustainability.
Warm and safe
Logs have a high thermal mass, which means they can store and absorb the suns heat during the day and slowly release it at night, maintaining a stable temperature. The tight scribed fit means that there is minimal air-flow around the logs, an important aspect of log home sustainability.
Our Log homes are constructed in the most sustainable way possible reducing the amount of petrochemical’s and plastics used. We empty a 200L rubbish bin only 2-3 time a year. This is our total waste, most of it is our employees lunch rubbish. We Reuse the peelings and sawdust as mulch in our gardens, enhancing overall log-home sustainability.
Price
Contrary to popular belief, your dream home, if it’s a log home, won’t actually be overly expensive to build. Each log provides your exterior surface, your insulation and your unique interior fascia. Three for the price of one – leaving you those extra pennies to splash out on all those other little dream pieces—all while ensuring log home sustainability.
